Longhorn Cavern State Park is located just 25 minutes from Marble Falls, Texas. The park was founded in the 1930s by the CCC and features attractions such as Longhorn Cavern, which is a majestic underground cavern created by a primitive river flowing through. Balcones Canyonlands is a National Wildlife Refuge in which people can enjoy beautiful hikes and see incredible wildlife. The refuge is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and it is free to visit the Warbler Vista Unit, Doeskin Ranch, as well as the Shin Oak Observation Deck. Jacob’s Well, located an hour south of Marble Falls, has a 12-foot opening that goes down 23 feet into a riverbed. The entrance fee is $9 for adults and $6 for children. This underwater cave is situated below a rock face and provides an exhilarating chance to those that want to jump into the crisp blue water. Gorman Falls is a “living waterfall” located in Colorado Bend State Park. What this means is, that unlike most waterfalls, Gorman Falls will keep getting bigger over time. Gorman Falls is currently an enormous 650 feet wide and 60 feet thick. In order to reach the falls, one must hike up Gorman Falls Trailhead ($6 entrance fee) which is three miles roundtrip. Camp at Inks Lake’s Pecan Flats
Inks Lake is a gorgeous destination that provides opportunities for exciting water activities. Pecan Flats Trail Primitive Camp provides a more secluded camping experience, located about a mile from the Pecan Flats trailhead. Once you’re all settled in, go and enjoy the lake. Rent a canoe and paddle to Devil’s Waterhole, which is on the northeast side of the lake. In this area you can swim, cliff jump, and hike upstream to find waterfalls. The hike to enchanted rock is a 5.5-mile trail that leads to a gorgeous summit with 360-degree views of the Texas Hill Country. This hike is not too challenging and is great for all ages. The trail is clearly marked, and the summit is enormous and beautiful. It is easy to spend the majority of the day simply exploring the summit and areas surrounding it. Entrance fee is $8.
